We all have to start somewhere don’t we? Therefore, here goes. The online design community is an amazing place made up of amazing people who more often than not, tend to be quite generous. Kapu, By Alama, was born from our desire to grow, empower and contribute to the sharing story that is the online design community. Kapu is a collective of designers, writers and creative thinkers passionate about crafting, creating, curating and most importantly sharing content and ideas that are useful to the design community and help creatives get the job done.
Over the course of many years, Google has been our educator in chief, the mighty solver of our design problems. From WP loops that didn’t loop to Java scripts that didn’t really care what you think to image processors that just got stuck and stared right back at you. Yet, it wasn’t Google solving the problems. All these solutions and quite a lot more, would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the many designers and developers on our blue planet. These designers and developers shared their fonts, mockups, plugins, tutorials and thoughts all free, and inspired us to grow without ever asking for anything in return. These are the real heroes and heroines, and most of us literary owe our careers to them.
The design community thrives on sharing. It thrives on us helping each other solve problems, and it thrives on our collaborations. Kapu is our way of throwing our hat in the ring and trying to help grow this amazing tale.
Most definitely, undertaking such an enterprise opens up a myriad of opportunities as well as challenges. However, if we don’t start creating and sharing content that we ourselves create, we won’t have stories to tell, we won’t discover anything new and most likely we won’t learn any new lessons and the limitations or potential of our own skill sets. Our Journey to redefining the narrative has begun.
Everything good that I know was taught to me by great teachers and I feel like giving back and sharing the technique is the thing to do.
